- The 8272 MFM controller IC used in PC floppy controllers won't let you read
- arbitrary encoding sequences (e.g. GCR), so the answer is no. It might be
- possible using one of the old Copy II Option boards (or whatever they were
- called) that let you read old Mac disks and others. It is, however, possible
- to read and write MFM disks in a 1541 drive but it requires adding a jumper
- to the board. The 1541 lets you bit-bang almost directly to the drive head
- which lets you get away with this trick.
